The New England Patriots got dominated by the Jacksonville Jaguars in an awful game to watch for Patriots fans.

Can we just pretend that Week 2 never happened? The New England Patriots played horribly in Week 2. They lost 31-20 on Sunday in a game they will look to forget.

After such a promising win in Week 1, this was a punch in the gut. There were no highlights in Jacksonville, only lowlights. It was a poor effort all around.

Patriots fans kept waiting for the team to turn things around, but even though they were able to cause some turnovers and score some points it wasn’t a good game.

So here are 3 takeaways from the Patriots terrible loss in Week 2.

The defense sucked

After a great performance in Week 1, the New England Patriots defense was absolute garbage in Week 2. Nobody could tackle, and the defensive line made Blake Bortles look like the 2nd coming of Mike Vick.

This was mostly thanks to Adrian Clayborn. He did a terrible job of holding the edge and allowed Bortles to get away for some decent runs.

Also, rookie Ja’Whaun Bentley had a poor showing. Bentley was supposed to be a guy who could stop the run, and since the Jaguars had over 100 rushing yards he didn’t do his job.

Bentley also got put in the spin cycle which isn’t amazing. Blake Bortles has the elusiveness of an 1800’s sailboat. I audibly gasped when Bortles juked Bentley out.

Eric Rowe also may be spending some time on the bench. He was terrible in coverage and was the main reason the Jaguars scored one of their touchdowns. I think it is time to see what Jason McCourty can do. We didn’t sign him for no reason.

Now even though the defense was terrible, the offense wasn’t that great either.
