Everyone is all over New England Patriots rookie Sony Michel. Even though he may be struggling, Michel has shown some bright spots.

Apparently, Sony Michel is the worst running back to ever be drafted by the New England Patriots. If you’ve been listening to some members of the Boston media I wouldn’t blame you for coming to that conclusion, but everyone needs to pump the brakes.

Michel has the foundation to be a great running back. The issue isn’t with Michel’s play. It’s the playcalling.

Josh McDaniels is having the worst season of his coaching career. His decision making is all over the place. Also, Bill Belichick may want to reevaluate how he uses his running backs. I think everyone can agree we should see more of James White.

So it is absolutely insane to call Michel a bust. When you have 98.5 the Sports Hub host Tony Massarotti saying that Michel sucks you just have to laugh.

Michel has only played in two games and even though he hasn’t racked up a ton of yards he has shown some hope. He has some great speed and can bounce off defenders.

The issue is that at times Michel has struggled to hit the hole, but that’s also due to the offensive line struggling. Let’s also not forget the guy’s a rookie. It isn’t easy to just jump into the NFL. Everyone can’t be Todd Gurley.

The Patriots return home where they picked up their only win of the season this week. Hopefully, they will be able to return to their excellent form. They need to. If the Patriots lose in Week 4 it could be a long season.

Next. It’s onto Miami for a must-win AFC East showdown. dark

So let’s give Sony Michel a break. We can wait until the end of the season to see if he was worth the first round pick.
