Boston Celtics: Kyrie Irving plans on keeping his talents in Boston
Plenty of speculation has already surrounded Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving due to his impending free agency in the summer of 2019. Well, Kyrie isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
The Boston Celtics traded for Kyrie Irving with belief that the culture their organization had built would keep the All-Star guard around for the long term. As soon as media day rolled around, Irving wasted no time addressing those free agency rumors in an interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols:
"“Even if I ever try to think about that thought of going elsewhere, it would be like ‘what are you thinking? We’re pretty f’ing good here…for not just this year, but for years to come.”"
Those are the exact words you want to hear if you’re a Boston Celtics fan.
Yes, he hasn’t put the pen to paper but there’s no reason Irving wouldn’t be back. Think about it. He loves the organization, his coach, teammates, and he’s in a winning situation. Those all sound like things worth sticking around for.

While his season was cut short, Kyrie had a very efficient season in 2017-2018. He shot 49 percent from the field, which was a career high, and knocked down 41 percent of his three-pointers.
That’s the second highest clip he’s hit at in his career. If anything, Irving is going to have an even better season now that he’s settled into the system and he’s finally healthy.
He’s playing with All-Stars in Gordon Hayward and Al Horford. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are also up and coming stars. Also, the Celtics bench is the deepest in the league.
It’s a fun time to be a member and fan of the Boston Celtics, and I think Kyrie fully understands the city and environment he’s in is a unique one and he appreciates it.
There’s going to be speculation all year, but I wouldn’t put too much stock into it. Kyrie Irving is going to be a Boston Celtic for a long time.
