Entering the ALDS series against the New York Yankees, Betts is coming off a tremendous season. As a leadoff hitter, Betts won the AL batting title with a .346 average with 32 homers, 80 RBI and 30 stolen bases.
As the latest player to make the 30-30 club, Mookie Betts proved all season that he is a dynamic player worthy of setting the tone in any game with his bat and glove.
With the way the team has struggled in the playoffs in the last two seasons, Betts has to get on base to catapult an aggressive offensive attack. He must do this for the team to have a good chance to go deep in the playoffs and he must do it for his own confidence.
In his first playoff appearance against the Cleveland Indians in 2016, Mookie Betts struggled, batting just .200 with 2 hits in 12 plate appearances. Last season against the Houston Astros, he was much better with five hits in 17 plate appearances.
This team absolutely needs him to continue his upward trend in the playoffs. If he is a major factor, the team will be a tough out in the playoffs even if the pitching struggles.
