Boston Bruins: Team will go as far as goaltending takes them
By Sam Minton
The Boston Bruins season has been a tale of two games. If the B’s want to be successful it starts with their goaltending.
In Basketball they have a saying, “live by the three, die by the three.” In Hockey there could be a similar saying, “live by goaltending, die by goaltending.” So far this season the Boston Bruins have shown just how important the position is.
In the Bruins first matchup of the season, Tuukka Rask played awful. It seemed like he just gave up and mercifully was pulled in the 2nd period.
The entire team played awful on Wednesday. The Bruins couldn’t get anything going in the Washington Capitals zone and struggled to contain Washington’s bevy of offensive weapons.

Then on Thursday, Jaroslav Halak shut out the Buffalo Sabres and the B’s had a much more complete effort. Now some of this can be blamed on the opponent, but the statement still rings true. The Bruins need consistent goaltending.
The Buffalo game was proof that the Bruins will be just fine on offense. They scored 4 goals and were clearly the better team.
So if the Bruins want to go far this season they need solid goaltending. The B’s don’t need Rask or Halak to shutout the opponent every game, but if they can rely on their goaltenders to only allow a couple goals a night, they will be alright.
If we start seeing Rask struggle it could lead the Bruins down a bad path. The Atlantic division is absolutely packed with talent. If the Bruins want to have a chance they need to get a high seed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They can’t afford to be giving up a ton of goals.
It may just be the beginning of the season, but the Boston Bruins have already shown how important goaltending will be to their success in the future.
