The Boston Red Sox send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound against the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the American League Division Series.

When the final out was made on Saturday night at Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox and their faithful fans instantly went into a must-win state of mind.  Ironically, they will have to go into a New York state of mind to avoid allowing a 108-win season to evaporate in the Bronx.

Forget the David Price playoff struggles, the Red Sox are out to prove they are different from the previous two playoff teams who laid down and took early exits out of the playoffs.

Monday night at Yankees Stadium is one way to prove they are legit.  That fight and feeling that they are never out of a game needs to resurface once Luis Severino throws that first pitch at 7:40 p.m.

More from Chowder and Champions

With Red Sox manager Alex Cora’s deciding to send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound in hopes of stealing homefield advantage back, he is sending the message that this is a team that won’t lay down.  Somehow win Game 3 and all the cards are back in Boston’s favor.

Speaking to the media following the Game 2 loss in the ALDS, Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts certainly isn’t panicking.

"“I think you know it’s a series that’s capable of going the distance,” Betts said, via MLB.com.  “I don’t think you expect to sweep.  You’ve got two great teams here, it’s a best-of-five.  It’s going to be fun.”"
