While it doesn’t seem Cordarrelle Patterson hasn’t done much for the New England Patriots, he has scored some key touchdowns for the team.

Well New England Patriots fans, you have your Jekyll and Hyde player of the 2018 NFL season in the person of Cordarrelle Patterson.

If there was ever a player who could make you bury your head in your hands one moment and get up and cheer the next, it is this man.

Labeled as the most dangerous kickoff returner in the game, Patterson was traded to the Patriots during the offseason to give the team a boost in that area.

He was also brought to the team to be a factor in the offense.

While the latter hasn’t exactly panned out in the fashion fans would like, the 27-year-old Patterson has made key plays at key times that makes his mistakes forgivable.

Take Sunday’s 38-31 win over the Chicago Bears.

After fumbling on a kickoff return that set up a Chicago score, Cordarrelle Patterson redeemed himself with this 95-yard electric kickoff return that got the team back in the game after being down 17-7.

Oh, was the word redemption mentioned?

As far as the very confident Patterson is concerned, redemption has no place in his vocabulary.

More from New England Patriots

"“It wasn’t no redemption, man,” Patterson said after the game.  “I’m a playmaker, man.  I hold myself accounted as the best kickoff returner in the league, man, and that’s what I stand for.  Every time I’m out there, I’ve got to be aggressive and approach it like it’s my last.  So, every time I do something bad, it’s going to sit on my head, but the next play, you’ve just got to keep going.”"

Patterson certainly gets kudos for his confidence as well as his ability to fly like the wind on kickoff returns.  So, despite a couple slips on jet sweeps, Cordarrelle Patterson has been a playmaker for the New England Patriots this season.

He proved it on Sunday.  He also proved that if he doesn’t do it in the offense, he is a value to have on the kickoff team.

Some special teams praise

While special teams play has always been an area of praise for Bill Belichick, this season hasn’t been so great.

The team has uncharacteristically made some mistakes in that facet of the game, including Cordarrelle Patterson’s fumble in the first half of Sunday’s game.  The good news is the team bounced back to basically win the games on two key special team’s plays.

First, there was the Patterson 95-yard kickoff return.  Then, in the second half, there was Dont’a Hightower’s blocked punt that led to another special team’s touchdown. Both plays highlighted everything that can go right in special teams.

It also proved that players like Hightower have to always be ready and that when plays are made on special teams, it can be really big in any NFL game.
