Chris Hogan’s contract expires at the end of the season and if the New England Patriots are smart they will let the wide receiver walk.

This season hasn’t been kind to Chris Hogan. With Hogan continuing to struggle, it appears that the New England Patriots need to let him walk at the end of the season.

In a contract year, Hogan hasn’t impressed at all. Hogan only has 25 catches for 380 yards and 2 touchdowns.

At times it seems like Tom Brady has ignored Hogan. We have seen Hogan be open and Brady might as well just look the other way. Hogan had 2 catches in New England’s most recent game, but it wasn’t anything special.

Hogan belongs as a 3rd or 4th receiver on a teams depth chart. I would much rather give that spot to Phillip Dorsett.

Dorsett is a younger player while Hogan has reached the dreaded age of 30. I have more confidence in Dorsett improving because life after 30 for a receiver isn’t fun.

The acquisition of Josh Gordon also makes it less likely that Hogan returns. Gordon has been great for the New England Patriots so far. He is racking up catches and is one of the Patriots best receivers. I expect Gordon to stay in New England for a while.

Then you can’t forget about the draft. N’Keal Harry is the top wideout in the draft this year and mock drafts don’t have him being drafted until late in the first round. He very well could fall to New England or the Patriots could move up.

Harry would be a deep threat. With Tom Brady only getting older, this would help the quarterback out a lot. We have seen what Brady has been able to do with Gordon. Imagine if Brady could mold a similar player from the start of his career?

So all signs are pointing to Chris Hogan leaving New England and it seems like the best move for the Patriots.
