1. Zdeno Chara

Zdeno Chara didn’t start his career with the Boston Bruins, but he has made the biggest impact while in Boston.

More from Boston Bruins

Chara is in the middle of his 13th season with the Bruins. Ever since he joined the team in the 2006-07 season he has had a major role.

Big Z is the longest-tenured captain in the NHL right now since he got the C when he arrived in Boston. He has been a great leader for the young guys in the locker room.

Chara has played in just over 900 games for the Bruins and has 141 goals and 316 assists. That puts him in 4th all-time for points, goals, and assists among defenseman (21st,31st, and 16th overall).

Clearly, Chara has shown that he is one of the best Bruins defensemen to ever wear the black and gold.

I think one of the more important roles that Chara plays is a mentor for the young guys. Charlie McAvoy has spoken time and time again how great it is to have a player like Zdeno in the locker room. Chara sill loves playing the game. He doesn’t do those crazy workouts for fun.

Zdeno Chara is probably the next Boston Bruins player to have his number retired.
