Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is headed to the IR and will be out for a decent amount of time. Sadly the talented defenseman has had lots of trouble staying healthy

Charlie McAvoy has only played one full season in the NHL and is already one of the Boston Bruins best defensemen. Sadly it looks like the Bruins will be without his services for a good chunk of time.

On Tuesday The Boston Globe’s Kevin Paul Dupont reported that McAvoy was placed on injured reserve (this would later be confirmed by a Bruins spokesman).

Obviously, it is never good to head to the IR. The Bruins have been losing defensemen left and right so far this season. Kevan Miller is already on the IR for the Bruins.

McAvoy is a major part of the Bruins success. He is one of their best offensive defensemen but is still a quality defender in his own zone. McAvoy is also the leader of the Bruins power play and has been succesful patrolling the point.

Now the impact of McAvoy’s absence is dampened by the return of Torey Krug. Krug is a similar player since he is great in the offensive zone, but McAvoy is a much better defender.

Krug already seems to be back in the thick of things as he played 18 minutes. For a guy who hasn’t played a regular season game yet that is pretty impressive.

McAvoy has been injured a lot in his career. In just two seasons McAvoy has already had to deal with a knee injury and a heart issue. Most of McAvoy’s injuries aren’t his fault, but if he wants to have a long NHL career he needs to stay healthier.

Next. Bruins should start Jaroslav Halak. dark

Hopefully, Charlie McAvoy will be back soon because the Boston Bruins need him to help out a thin and struggling defensive corps.
