Boston Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge called out C’s fans for rookie Robert Williams nickname and later came up with his own nickname for the big man.

Robert Williams has caused a lot of controversy since coming to the Boston Celtics. The latest issue is revolving around the rookie’s nickname.

Williams has earned the nickname “Time Lord” which sounds like something out of a Harry Potter movie. The nickname is poking fun about how Williams tardiness for interviews and flights early on in his career.

A lot of media members were freaking out and this nickname is basically Boston Celtics fans sticking their tongue out because Williams is doing great.

More from Chowder and Champions

Williams finally has gotten some serious playing time in the last two game due to Al Horford getting injured. He is averaging 6.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks a game.

Celtics fans love the nickname, but one guy isn’t that big of a fan, Celtics GM Danny Ainge. He was on the Toucher and Rich show this morning and said that C’s fans could do better.

Now I will admit that the “Time Lord” nickname may sound like it comes out of a mythical tale, but I like it. Whenever you can make fun of the media it’s hard to hate the name.

Now to Ainge’s credit, he came up with his own nickname for Williams, “Lob Williams.” I don’t know how creative it is since he just replaced an R with an L, but it has some legs. I can imagine Mike Gorman screaming ” Lob Williams with the slam!” on an alley-oop.

It will be interesting to see what nickname will prevail. There may be a push by the Boston Celtics organization backing their GM, but I wouldn’t doubt the power of Celtics fans.

Next. Celtics finally living up to expectations. dark

Let us know which nickname you guys prefer.
