New England Patriots: It’s next man up for New England
By Sam Minton
The New England Patriots are without one of their best receivers in Josh Gordon. We have seen stars shine out of nowhere in New England, but will that happen again this year?
Next man up. Do your Job. These are the mantras that the New England Patriots live by. It has birthed stars like Malcolm Butler and many others. Once again the team will have to rely on their ability to handle change.
The Josh Gordon news is terrible on and off the field. At the end of the day, all you should care about is Josh Gordon the human being getting better.
So now the Patriots need some production from some guys who haven’t exactly been firing on all cylinders. Two guys who will be getting a serious uptick in playing time is Phillip Dorsett and Chris Hogan.

Dorsett has been sitting on the sidelines for most of the season. Once Julian Edelman returned we didn’t see a lot of the speedy receiver. Dorsett has started in only 2 games this season and has a minuscule 27 catches for 256 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Now Bill Belichick isn’t known for giving a glowing review of players currently on his team, but he seems to really love Dorsett. he spoke extensively about the receiver and talked about how he has done everything that has been asked of him.
I’m expecting a lot out of Dorsett. I think the Patriots will try to give him a larger role for the rest of the season. Hopefully he will surprise us with some great play.
The Patriots will also be forced to rely on Chris Hogan. At times this season Hogan has gone missing. He has had absolutely zero impact on some games. Hogan will be wide open and Tom Brady won’t throw him the ball.
Now Brady has no choice. Chris Hogan will have to become a major part of this offense. Maybe he will finally find his role.
It is sink or swim for the New England Patriots right now. Hopefully the team will do what they always do and somehow find a path to the Super Bowl.
