The New England Patriots were victorious in Week 16 and are somehow back at the top of the AFC.

I along with a chunk of New England Patriots fans have to apologize. Boy were we wrong.

The Patriots have struggled the past couple of weeks. The offense looked all out of sorts and players who are the backbone of the team were struggling. All it took was a week to change all of that.

In Week 16 there was still some issues. The offense struggled with some turnovers and Rob Gronkowski still seems out of it, but some other guys had great games.

More from Chowder and Champions

Sony Michel was an absolute beast racking up his 4th 100-yard rushing game of the season and Julian Edelman had one of his best outings of the season. The wide receiver made an amazing play to score his 4th touchdown of the season.

It’s also a pretty good day for your defense when you hold the opposing team to 12 points. It may have been the lowly Buffalo Bills, but these are the types of games that can build momentum.

The defense was able to create turnovers with Jason McCourty and JC Jackson securing interceptions on Sunday.

The Patriots may be coming home in the postseason

Now let’s get to the most important news to come out of the Patriots Week 16 victory, New England is now 2nd in the AFC. They control their destiny. If they can defeat the New York Jets in Week 17, they will have home field advantage.

Who would have thought we would be saying that after last week. In an ironic turn of events, Patriots fans are grateful for the Philadelphia Eagles. Philly defeated the Houston Texans in Week 16 bumping them down in the standings.

So I’m sorry for ever doubting the New England Patriots. I don’t know why I do it. They always find a way to make it to the Super Bowl. All the Patriots do is win.

So for now we can celebrate a 10th straight AFC East championship, but the New England Patriots need to have a strong effort against the New York Jets. Who knows maybe they will find a way to sneak their way up to the No.1 seed.
