In just his second season with the Boston Celtics, Marcus Morris has taken the liberty of creating his own role which has proven to play big in key moments this season for the team.

Perhaps the biggest issue thus far in the 2018-19 season for the Boston Celtics has been consistency. Yeah you can get more in depth and speak upon their rebounding or their bench blues, but point blank it’s consistency.

They’ve shown us that guys like Gordon Hayward, Jaylen Brown, and Terry Rozier can step up and propel the team in crunch time runs. They’ve shown that they can rebound and answer back at opposing big’s in the league.

However, the issue is maintaining everything they’re capable of doing right, on a night-to-night basis. That’s why they’re able to completely out-play contending Eastern Conference rivals like the Philadelphia 76ers while still giving up 64-points half’s to the Memphis Grizzlies who rank at number 29 in NBA offenses today.

However, with all this said, one of the brighter sides what’s been a pretty underachieving Celtics season is second-year forward, Marcus Morris. The man who’s quickly made Celtics fans forget about Avery Bradley who brought us Morris from Detroit two off-seasons ago. In 31 games played for Boston this season, Morris is averaging 15.2 points, 6.3 rebounds (career-high), and 1.5 assists in 27.3 minutes per game.

Mook is also shooting a career best 49.9 percent from the field, 43.7 percent from three, and 88.9 percent from the line. I’ll say it again. Those are all career highs for Marcus Morris. His importance to Brad Stevens and the Celtics continues to show on a night-to-night basis- and on a team full of youth, Morris has helped Kyrie Irving lead by example.

Another key performance

Saturday night against the Memphis Grizzlies, Marcus Morris did just that.

Playing a huge role in the Boston Celtics overcoming a 19-point deficit in their victory against Memphis, Morris stepped up with 22 points on 7/13 shooting from the field and 4/9 from three in 33 minutes.

Aside from Kyrie Irving (who’s also had some off nights), Morris has by far been Boston’s most consistent and reliable option on the floor. The 29-year old is proving himself and essentially showcasing his skill-set for a hopeful payday come next off-season.

That’s the reality of the NBA. We though bench platoon outfielders lived the life in the MLB, but the NBA has shown to be the place be. Morris is currently in the final year of a four-year contract he signed, originally with the Phoenix Suns for $20 million.

He’s set to earn $5,375,000 this season before hitting the market as an unrestricted free agent. Just another reason for the Celtics and us fans to appreciate Morris for as long as he’s here. Another genius deal struck. Just goes to us again and again, Danny Ainge knows what he’s doing.
