Boston Celtics fans honored Dirk Nowitzki in perfect way
By Sam Minton
The Boston Celtics were victorious over the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night but honored an NBA legend in the best way.
There are plenty of reasons to be proud of the Boston Celtics. The C’s had a great win over the Dallas Mavericks 114-93, but the Celtics fans were great as well.
This will likely be Dirk’s final season of his amazing NBA career. Nowitzki left a major mark on the NBA. He is probably the best European player to ever play the game.
Nowitzki has played 21 seasons in the NBA and for his career is averaging 21.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists a game. Nowitzki is a great shooter, especially for 7 footer.

On Friday night Nowitzki had a rare opportunity. He could have passed Kobe Bryant for most points scored at TD Garden by a Western Conference opponent.
When Nowitzki entered the game he was greeted with a standing ovation from the Garden crowd. If anyone deserves this honor, it is Dirk.
Boston Celtics fans didn’t need to give Nowitzki this honor, but like many people, they realized how special of a player he was.
If you were hoping Dirk would pass Kobe I have some rough news, he didn’t. All Nowitzki needed was 2 points to pass Bryant, but he failed to make a shot.
Another great moment came with less than two seconds left. Dallas had the ball and it seemed like everyone was rooting for Dirk to score. The Garden was rocking and the Celtics gave Nowitzki plenty of room, but the big man failed to sink the shot.
Still, Dirk was very grateful for the support from the Boston crowd.
"“It’s sweet when, not only your home fans but, fans on the road appreciate what you have done in the last two decades,” Nowitzki said. “I appreciate the fans of Boston and, unfortunately, I was really disappointed I couldn’t even make one.”"
Nowitzki will without a doubt be a first ballot hall of famer. He has had a legendary career. Nowitzki has been to the All-Star game 13 times, has been named to the All-NBA team 12 times, was named league MVP in 2006-07, and in 2010-11 was the MVP of the NBA Finals where he brought a championship home to Dallas.
Congrats on a great career Dirk!
