Boston Celtics: Marcus Smart has found his shot in 2019
By Sam Minton
Marcus Smart has become known around the NBA for his supreme defensive skills, but now Smart is becoming the quality offensive player that the Boston Celtics need him to be.
Marcus Smart earned a new deal based on being one of the best defenders in the NBA, but maybe the Boston Celtics knew something that we didn’t. That Smart can actually shoot the ball.
It seemed like Smart was destined to leave Boston. He wanted a massive payday and a possibility of becoming a starter. Smart still got paid by the Celtics but he knows he won’t be getting the starting job that he wanted.
So far this season Marcus Smart has proven that he looks to be worth the investment. Smart is having one of the best seasons of his career.

Smart is averaging 8 points and 4 assists a game. These numbers are actually down from last season, but Smart is shooting much more effectively.
This looks like it will be Marcus Smart’s best year as a shooter. He is shooting .415 from the field and .374 from behind the 3 point line.
Especially in the new year, Smart has been lights out. So far in January, Smart is shooting .485. He has been even better from 3 point range.
In Smart’s last 4 games he is 13-22 from long range. There is not a lot more you can ask for from a 2nd unit guard.
We all know what Smart bring’s on defense and it is one of the reasons Celtics fans love him. He has won games by taking charges and making key defensive stops.
Now it looks like Smart will start winning games with what he is doing on offense. If Smart can continue to be an effective scorer the Celtics will be a difficult team to beat.
Marcus Smart has finally found his shot and is saving the Boston Celtics season.
