New England Patriots rumors: Team needs to start paying top performers

The New England Patriots have some big decisions to make this offseason, but one thing is clear. The team needs to re-sign Trey Flowers. If they don’t it will send a message that could haunt the team for year’s to come.

The New England Patriots have gained a reputation around the NFL. Some of it is good while some of it actually hurts the team. One area that has hurt the Pats is their inability to pay players.

One of the top players on the Patriots roster is Trey Flowers. The defensive end is an absolute beast and was a one man wrecking crew in 2018.

This season was amazing for Flowers. He racked up 7.5 sacks which was a career high. Flowers was great in the playoffs as well getting 2 sacks.

Flowers is the type of guy you build your defense around. He is only 25 and has plenty of great years ahead of him. One day Flowers could be the top pass rusher in the entire NFL.

Now on any team this would seem like an easy decision. Of course you would re-sign the guy, but this is the New England Patriots. They have let loyal stars like Lawyer Milloy, Danny Amendola, and Wes Welker walk away because of their unwillingness to pay them.

The Patriots just can’t be cheap anymore. Soon players like Sony Michel, Kyle Van Noy, James White, and Deatrich Wise will need new contracts. If you don’t pay Flowers this tells them that you don’t reward players for great play.

How do you expect players to be loyal to your team if there is no reward at the end? These guys are giving their all on the gridiron. They deserve to be paid their worth.
