Trey Flowers was the driving force behind the New England Patriots defense and the team can’t afford to lose the defensive end.

The New England Patriots defense was impressive in 2018. A major reason for the group’s success is defensive end Trey Flowers.

Flowers had an amazing season for the Patriots. He led the Patriots in sacks with 7.5 and also had 57 tackles.

What makes Trey Flowers so special is his ability to get to the quarterback. He truly is a one man wrecking crew, but now the defensive end is due for a major payday.

Flowers is a free agent and he will get the payday he deserves. The question is what team will he be playing on in 2019?

It seems like this would be an easy decision. Who wouldn’t re-sign Flowers?

Well this is the New England Patriots we are dealing with. They are an organization that is notorious for not paying for stars.

It looks like New England will have to break out the checkbook since one of their AFC rivals is going after Flowers.

The Patriots can’t let Flowers go to the Miami Dolphins. If he does the Patriots front seven will be left in shambles.

Then there is the fact that Flowers would be joining former defensive coordinator Brian Flores down in Miami. Flores helped make the New England Patriots defense so special. The duo could definitely do some damage down in Miami.

That’s why the New England Patriots need to lock up Flowers as soon as possible. This will ensure that Flowers doesn’t get tempted by some of the exorbitant numbers players can get in free agency. The longer Flowers remains unsigned, the chance the he returns gets more and more unlikely.

Next. The case for re-signing Phillip Dorsett. dark

That Patriots No.1 priority this season should be re-signing Flowers. If they lose him, a giant hole will be left in New England’s defense.
