Boston Bruins: The fix was in for Game 5
By Sam Minton
Boston Bruins fans witnessed one of the worst officiated games in NHL history. The referees literally stole the game from the Bruins.
I am stunned. I am shocked. I am appalled. The Boston Bruins had Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals stolen right out from under them.
Now let me get ahead of the other side of the argument. The Bruins didn’t necessarily have a good game, but they should have had a shot in overtime.

The referees took that away from them. When the St.Louis Blues scored their 2nd goal of the game the refs missed an obvious call.
They had to go out of their way to screw things up because the play was happening right in front of a referee.
Tyler Bozak clearly slew-footed Noel Acciari but the refs must have been looking up at all the banners because he missed the call and David Perron would go on to score.
How does this trip go uncalled? My mind can not comprehend such a lapse in judgment. How do these guys get paid by the NHL to do such a bad job?

How do you miss that? That couldn’t be a more blatant call. There might as well have been a big sign over Bozak’s head saying “I tripped someone.” Bozak himself was even surprised that there was no call.
There are a lot of times when fans will blame the refs for no reason, but this is different. This call changed the course of the game and possibly the season. The refs seriously may have cost Boston the Stanley Cup.
I still have faith in the Bruins. This missed call may galvanize the team and give them even more motivation to dominate Game 6.
But Game 5 was a disservice to the game of hockey. The refs stole the game from the Boston Bruins.
