The New England Patriots would get a gift from the NFL if Josh Gordon were to be reinstated.

If the NFL were to reinstate Josh Gordon following a ban due to violating the substances abuse polity, it would be a gift to the New England Patriots and more of a gift for the player himself.

It would mean that the league feels Gordon has done what he needs to do get to a better place in his personal life.  He must certainly feel he has as he has applied for reinstatement according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk on Saturday.

Now, Gordon has gotten many chances in the NFL, mostly during his stint with the Cleveland Browns, so if he is not reinstated, it is more of an indictment on himself.  However, the 28-year-old wide receiver is not putting harm on others, but rather has struggled to get his own life back in order.

After watching the New England Patriots go on to win Super Bowl LIII, Gordon appeared more motivated than ever to get back on the field and pick up where he left off with the team.  Before his indefinite ban by the NFL, Gordon led the Patriots with 720 receiving yards.

Most importantly, he was really starting to hit his stride catching the ball from Tom Brady.  It is that relationship that could keep Josh Gordon on the right path if he were to be given another chance.  In that respect, it would mean everything to the player as he would be given an opportunity to get back to his All-Pro status while he is still in his prime.

As troubled as Josh Gordon has been, the success of hard work and how he has taken accountability for his failures could be a story that has an inspirational ending.  That is how the NFL could benefit.  To see a player hit bottom and find his way back to the top is how everyone hopes the Gordon narrative will pan out.

On the football field, it would mean everything for the New England Patriots.  Obviously, they are a team that are preparing to move on if there is no Josh Gordon but giving Tom Brady another reliable weapon (on the field) could turn a lot of question marks within the offense into a high-powered offense.

Imagine a trio of Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon and N’Keal Harry to go along with James White out of the backfield.  Suddenly Brady would have a couple of big targets to go along with his quick outlet options in Edelman and White.  Suddenly the Patriots become a difficult team to defend even without Rob Gronkowski.

But, it does all depend on the NFL and where they see Josh Gordon is at in his personal rehabilitation.  If he is deemed ready off the field, he will be a dangerous addition on the field for the New England Patriots in 2019.
