The New England Patriots are now dealing with the aftermath of signing Antonio Brown and all the baggage that comes with him but focused on football as usual.

If there was a team and players that could deal with the distraction known as Antonio Brown it is Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

That, of course, is being put to the test this week as a lawsuit accusing the star receiver of rape and sexual assault surfaced following the official announcement of his signing.

While Bill Belichick, the team and Brown’s agent has addressed the situation, all eyes will remain on Foxborough until the situation comes to some sort of conclusion.  Given that it is a civil lawsuit, it may take the entire season.

How will that affect a player like Brady and the team’s overall success?

From recent examples, the distractions will be minimal.  However, the scrutiny over what the New England Patriots decide to do with Antonio Brown the person will only increase.  As far as Antonio Brown the football player, that is where the team’s focus on, especially Tom Brady.

When asked about the Brown’s current situation off the field, Brady remained mum.  But, when it came to what he can add on the football field, the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback focused on how challenging it will be to get the star playmaker up to speed in the offense.

"“Just like a lot of new players, trying to get up to speed and so forth,” Brady said during his weekly press conference, as transcribed by WEEI.  “A lot to learn.  Again, coming in this time of year I would say is challenging.  That is just the situation.  It happens a lot throughout the NFL.  Different players change teams and so forth.  That has happened over the years.  Just trying to do the best we can do.”"

While it remains seen on whether the Brady-to-Brown connection will actually take the field, there is no doubt Antonio Brown is the best playmaking receiver Tom Brady has had since the days of Randy Moss.

No offense Josh Gordon, but the numbers Brown has put up during his days with the Pittsburgh Steelers makes him a lethal weapon for Brady if the two get on the same page and if the controversial receiver actually suits up for the New England Patriots.

Any opinion about the character of Antonio Brown is fair game given his recent actions, but what he presents on the football field is undeniable.  That’s what Tom Brady and the Patriots are focused on.  They don’t need him, but it is exciting to see the possibilities on the field.
