New England Patriots: Bill Belichick has passed the torch
By Sam Minton
It seems that Bill Belichick is already passing the torch as it has now been revealed that Steve Belichick has been calling plays for the New England Patriots defense.
Just like Tom Brady, Bill Belichick will have to retire one day. Even though it seems like he can, the New England Patriots head coach can’t stand on the sidelines forever.
That means that the Patriots will one day have a completely different coaching staff. Gone will be the days of a Belichick patrolling the sidelines.

Or will there be someone in the Belichick family who is ready to take over?
Some may know that Steve Belichick has been on the Patriots coaching staff for a while now. He joined the team back in 2012.
The younger Belichick started off as a defensive assistant and is now labeled as a safeties coach. If he has half the football mind of his father he will be a head coach somewhere in no time.
Now I wonder how may safeties coaches call plays for the defense? Because that is exactly what Belichick is doing.
This is pretty impressive for a 32-year-old. That is a lot of trust to give to a young coach.
Now let’s factor in how well the Patriots defense has been doing. Of course most of the credit belongs to the players, but the coaches deserve some credit as well. They are in charge of game planning and prepping the team for the coming week’s opponent.
I think that it is possible that we see Steve Belichick take an even larger role with the team if he doesn’t decide to head elsewhere. With all the success that Bill Belichick has brought to the team why wouldn’t they give his son a chance? Bill would probably offer up some advice to Steve and help him get adjusted to the position.
So maybe we aren’t towards the end of the Belichick age in New England. It might actually just be the beginning.
