New England Patriots: Mohamed Sanu earns Brady’s trust and praise
The New England Patriots lost their first game of the season but gained a trustworthy connection between Tom Brady and Mohamed Sanu.
Veteran wide receiver Mohamed Sanu was rumored as a possible addition to the New England Patriots wide receiver core previous to the team finally trading for him prior to the 2019 NFL Trade Deadline. On Sunday night we saw why.
While Tom Brady has endured some frustration in gaining and then losing playmakers like Antonio Brown and Josh Gordon this season, the Sanu pick up will predictably be the best fit for what the Patriots like to do offensively.
Think back to 2010 when the team traded Randy Moss and brought back Deion Branch. It was a move at the time that brought the New England Patriots back to the type of quick tempo offense they excelled at. That similar transformation is developing with the addition of Sanu.

On Sunday night, the veteran wide receiver finished the game with 10 receptions on 14 targets for 81 yards and a touchdown. Not a dominant performance, but one that combined well with Julian Edelman and the type of dink and dunk offensive football Tom Brady has mastered.
With 2019 first-round pick N’Keal Harry also set to make his debut, the one thing the Patriots can take out of their 37-20 beatdown suffered at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens is an offense that may have found its identity thanks to the addition of Mohamed Sanu.
Appearing on The Greg Hill Show Monday, Tom Brady gushed about his newest and already one of his most reliable wide receivers.
"“He did a great job and just did a great job finding the little spots in the zones and catches the ball well and runs hard,” Brady said, as transcribed by WEEI. “I thought he did a great job for us. It’s a real credit to him two weeks in and have that type of contribution. We’re going to need a lot more as we go forward really from everybody. Really everybody at this point is going to have to take it to the next level. This is when football season gets tough.”"
Brady went on to praise the mental and physical toughness of his new tandem of Sanu and Julian Edelman. He also expressed the importance of other playmakers stepping up on the offense like Phillip Dorsett and whatever tight ends are on the field.
A more trustworthy offensive line and any compliment of a running game will help as well.
In all, a promising performance put forth by Mohamed Sanu and one that has established trust from Tom Brady. It will be interesting going forward to see just how methodical and magical this connection gets to solidify the New England Patriots air attack.
