New England Patriots: Tom Brady and team blew 1st round bye
By Sam Minton
The New England Patriots played awfully on Sunday and their Week 17 loss blew their chance to have a 1st round bye.
Week 17 was supposed to be easy. The New England Patriots were playing one of the worst teams in the NFL. That didn’t end up being the case.
The game went down to the wire and the Patriots were not the victors. New England lost to the Miami Dolphins 27-24. They are playing on wildcard weekend for the 1st time since 2009.

Now you can’t totally blame one person. You win as a team and lose as a team. But there were some plays that stood out.
One of those involved Tom Brady. We have grown to expect near perfection from Brady week in and week out. That wasn’t the case against the Miami Dolphins.
Brady’s lone interception was a costly one. It was returned to the end zone by former Patriot Eric Rowe.
The throw by Brady was so awful. He either overthrew James White or made a poor choice in throwing to Julian Edelman. With the Patriots losing by 3 points it’s hard not to pinpoint this play as a gamechanger.
Also, there was the defense. This was probably their worst game of the season.
The Patriots secondary let Ryan Fitzpatrick throw for over 300 yards. Devante Parker also lit up Stephon Gilmore. Parker ended the day with over 100 yards.
If the Patriots defense can’t stop these guys how will they get far in the playoffs? I’m starting to even get worried that they will lose in the wildcard game.
So next week’s game could be very interesting for Patriots fans. It quite possibly could be the last time we see Brady in a Patriots uniform. Best case scenario for New England, they live to fight another day in the NFL playoffs.
