The Boston Celtics announced that they would be retiring Kevin Garnett’s No.5 jersey that he wore with the team. The honor is definitely well deserved.

The Boston Celtics aren’t exactly known for the exclusivity of their retired numbers. The TD Garden rafters are filled with them, but it is still an honor when such a prestigious franchise recognizes the impact you had on a team.

The latest honor will be going right next to Paul Pierce’s No.34 and that is right where he belongs. No other Boston Celtic will be wearing Kevin Garnett’s No.5.

More from Chowder and Champions

The C’s announced on Thursday night that they were retiring KG’s number during their matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Now I will admit this is strange. I say that because for some reason the Minnesota Timberwolves haven’t retired Garnett’s number yet.

Garnett and the Big 3 helped bring basketball to the forefront with his arrival in Boston. After years of struggling the Celtics were finally a contender.

When Garnett came to the team he became a fan favorite. The passion and love for the game oozed off of him. It was hard not to like him.

Garnett’s stats helped foster that love as well. In his first season with the C’s, he averaged 18.8 points and 9.2 rebounds and helped lead the Celtics to a championship.

It would be the only championship that Garnett would win. It’s a shame because he was so talented but Minnesota struggled and couldn’t get far in the playoffs.

So without a doubt, Kevin Garnett deserves to have his number retired. He loved Boston and Boston loved him right back.

The next stop for Garnett will be the Basketball Hall of Fame as he should get in as a part of this year’s class. KG deserves to be a first ballot hall of famer.

I hope to be in attendance the night that Garnett’s number is retired. It will be a night you won’t want to miss.

Next. Jayson Tatum needs to keep driving. dark

The No.5 deserves to be in the rafters along with the rest of the Celtics legend because that is exactly what Kevin Garnett is, a C’s legend.
