This offseason is the weirdest in New England Patriots history. We have seen so many players depart and things will be wildly different

That was the case when the Patriots didn’t bring back Tom Brady and he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now that Rob Gronkowski has been traded it is even crazier.

On Tuesday the New England Patriots traded Rob Gronkowski and a 7th round pick to Tampa for a 4th round pick in this year’s draft. At first, that might not seem like much but in reality, this was a work of art from Bill Belichick.

This Gronkowski news really came out of nowhere. As soon as we heard that Gronkowski could be coming back to the NFL he was traded to the Bucs.

There is a key thing that Patriots fans need to remember, Rob Gronkowski didn’t even play last season. He wasn’t going to play this season.

The only way Rob Gronkowski was going to come back is if he was playing with Tom Brady on a new team.

The Patriots also owed Gronkowski $10 million this year. So Tampa Bay had the upper hand in negotiations.

Still, New England got a decent haul. A 4th round pick is nothing to scoff at. Especially if the Patriots can package that pick into a deal that moves New England up in the 1st round.

Bill Belichick made something out of nothing. He turned a retired player into a 4th round pick. That is why he is the best.

I got a lot more confident about the Patriots thanks to this trade. The team is in good hands and I think they might surprise some people this season. As long as they have Bill Belichick they will be in good hands.

So even though it was something that none of us expected (even in this crazy offseason), it was a great move by the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick. With the draft occurring this week it will be interesting to see what the Patriots do with this new pick.
