New England Patriots: Evaluating AFC East quarterback competition
Josh Allen
Let’s start with the second-best team in the AFC East in 2019, the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo made the playoffs last season under their excellent young coach, Sean McDermott. I give them high grades for their 2020 draft.
Through the draft, both indirectly and directly, they augmenting an already decent offense. They added super wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a trade with Minnesota and drafted Zack Moss, a tough running back from Utah.

These two great offensive additions will only help Buffalo’s excellent young quarterback, Josh Allen.
Allen is entering his third season in Buffalo and he is ready to roll. Allen went from completing a percentage of 52.8 to 58.8% from 2018 to 2019. Still not great, but improving.
In addition, Allen upped his TD to Interception ratio from 10 and 12 to 20 and 9. Again, improvement is clearly evident.
And, he also led the Bills into the playoffs last season losing to Houston in the Wild Card round. Allen is a very good place to start.
Matt Barkley was a backup last season and Buffalo also selected Jake Fromm from Georgia in last month’s draft. I liked the Fromm pick by Buffalo and New England could have taken a chance on him as well, later in the draft. They passed.
So Buffalo is fairly well set at least with a starter and with a couple of backups ready to fill in in case of injury. I’d expect Fromm to jump over Barkley to secure the top backup role.
