The New England Patriots are looked at as a .500 team in 2020.

Evidently, objective Caesar Sportbook in Las Vegas isn’t valuing the Patriots’ remodeling very highly and have pegged the New England Patriots as a .500 team or less in 2020.

And they may be right.

More from Chowder and Champions

They cite losses on defense, a tough schedule, and oh yes, the loss of a certain quarterback named Tom Brady as some reasons for their estimate. Why wouldn’t they?

Only “rose-colored glasses” Patriots fans can’t see that this edition of the team isn’t likely to set the NFL, the AFC, or even the AFC East on fire. Rather, this team assembled by the Patriots looks more like a smoldering ruin.

People who are objective in Patriots Nation are often skewered for negativity if they look at the landscape and call it as they see it. But, the facts are the facts and the roster is the roster, and this Patriots team doesn’t measure up to many of those in the past, at all.

First of all, how is the most important position on the team, quarterback, looking? Like a craps shoot at a Las Vegas table in my view.

The Patriots operation has put all of their trust in what evidently they feel is the next Tom Brady because it was they who discovered the first Brady.

Let me say this unequivocally, this is complete and utter balderdash! First, they didn’t “discover” the great Brady. They took a shot-in-the-dark on him at the recommendation of the great Patriots assistant coach, Dick Rehbein.

So now, this brain trust who only consider 35-40 of the 2000 or so collegiate players worthy of a draft pick by this team, have decided that an untested quarterback who has thrown a sum total of 4 passes in his illustrious career is the new leader of the playoff-bound Patriots.

To think that basically a rookie who is handed the job without meaningful competition will replace the great Brady, while saddled with an offense that is very similar to the one that that Brady couldn’t get to work, is foolishness.

Next. The move that took an NFL franchise from Boston. dark

I hope they’re right, but frankly, I seriously doubt it. But woe to those who see a Patriots ship with holes in the keel and a broken mast and call it unseaworthy. You will be taken to task.
