New England Patriots: 3 major reasons for optimism in 2020
The New England Patriots have 3 solid reasons for optimism entering the 2020 NFL season.
The 2020 New England Patriots season is a season of transition for the AFC East powerhouse. The buzzards (the AFC East bottom dwellers) are circling and looking to feed on the carcass of a New England team without the greatest quarterback in the history of the league.
But will they? That is a key question for the AFC East, and one that will be a great source of interest and enjoyment should the feeding frenzy actually begin upon New England’s demise.
But, not so fast! While the loss of Tom Brady is a devastating one, as I have written on numerous occasions, that doesn’t mean that all is lost for the Patriots in the post-Brady era.
The Patriots are an institutional winning team. They thrive on winning. Count them out at your peril.
Now I have speculated before that I feel that the Patriots are now looking up at the Buffalo Bills for the first time in 2 decades. I’d be less than candid if I didn’t say that I still think that’s the case.
So, in light of that, why do I lend hope to the eternal Patriots optimists by saying they still can make a go of it? It’s simple, there is a possibility that they can still succeed, even sans Brady.
If somethings break right for New England in addition to the 3 solid reasons I will try to articulate, we could still be seeing a Patriots team that will win the AFC East, as it has for nearly every season since 2001. And I sincerely hope they do.
Those things include the following keys on offense. First, the Patriots actually have or will acquire a quarterback who can lead them to victories. I’ve written before, I think Cam Newton is the best available option.
Second, the Patriots actually have miraculously found or developed receivers other than Julian Edelman who can actually make a decent number of receptions.
Third, the Patriots tight ends, hopefully, bolstered by the two 3rd-round draft choices, produce.
So, let’s explore in some more detail the 3 reasons why the Patriots still actually have a chance to be a playoff team in 2020.
