The Boston Red Sox are hoping to get fans back in the stands during the 2020 season and that isn’t the best look for the organization.

Somehow we will be having an MLB season. Boston Red Sox fans will get the opportunity to watch their favorite team compete for a World Series.

All sports seem to be adjusting to what will be the new normal.  We already know that MLS and the NBA will not be allowing fans to attend games.

This seems to be the best move. The country doesn’t seem to be in a place where allowing fans would be responsible.

In Europe, almost all of the sports leagues won’t have fans. Obviously losing the gate revenue hurts but protecting people should be the No.1 priority.

So Red Sox president Sam Kennedy saying that he hopes to get fans in at some point seems rather greedy.

"“We are hopeful to have fans at some point,” Kennedy said. “We need fans at Fenway Park. Our fans give us a competitive advantage. I can tell you there are clubs around Major League Baseball that are anticipating having fans in their ballparks. It’s an incredibly important part of our business and an incredibly important part of our baseball operation, so we would like to get to that point. I can’t tell you when that would happen. We are working through the protocols that would be required to pursue that opportunity someday in the future.”"

To Kennedy’s credit, this is partly on MLB. They are letting each team decide for themselves if they are going to allow fans or not. This seems like a mistake.

The MLB should say there are no fans so each and every team will be on the same playing field. It’s unfair to have one team play in front of fans when the other is not.

Also, this shows just how greedy the owners are. They were trying to nickel and dime the players and now will turn a profit if fans are allowed. That’s all the owners seem to care about.

Boston just looks greedy by expecting fans to come. They would rather risk making a pandemic worse just so they can bring in some dollars.

The Red Sox have been price gouging fans for years. No matter the success (or lack thereof) ticket prices have continued to rise as well as concessions.

Hopefully, MLB reverses course. The smart thing to do seems to be having games played behind closed doors. This would show you actually care about the safety of your players and staff members.

But all the owners and Kennedy seem to care about is ensuring that they will be able to make some money in 2020.
