New England Patriots Rumors: Cam Newton and OBJ and Belichick, oh my!

After signing Cam Newton to a one-year deal, could the New England Patriots finally spark a deal to land Odell Beckham Jr.?

If there is any doubt about how the arrival of Cam Newton impacts the New England Patriots offense in 2020, it is the lack of firepower surrounding him.

With a wide receiver group led by Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu and second-year receiver N’Keal Harry, adding another explosive playmaker would further add excitement to Bill Belichick and Cam Newton NFL merger.

Well, there is one player he trained with this offseason in Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who would certainly put some boom in the Patriots offense.

Not only that, but can you just imagine the havoc the trio of Belichick, Newton and OBJ would wreck on the NFL if all three are on the same page and motivated to prove people wrong?  Oh My!

But, is a trade between the Patriots and Browns possible?  And what would it even look like?

While those original Odell Beckham Jr. rumors died the day Tom Brady took his talents to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the arrival of his good friend and workout buddy Cam Newton certainly sparks the possibility again.

Even though OBJ has shot down those trade rumors, we all know better when it comes to the NFL.  We also know better when it comes to Bill Belichick and what he may have up his sleeve.

It is no coincidence that Cam Newton and Odell Beckham Jr. released videos of them working out together this offseason.  Those videos not only showed Newton’s health, it also displayed how the two would look together on the field.

Add to that a coach in Belichick who is highly motivated himself and suddenly the New England Patriots go from a team once again considered a threat in the AFC to a Super Bowl favorite.

This brings us back to the Joe Thuney trade rumors.

With the New England Patriots and Thuney rumored to be not close on a long-term deal, could Bill Belichick pull the trigger on a deal to ship the All-Pro guard to a team in need of his services?

We saw it before with Logan Mankins.  So, the history supports Belichick’s willingness to shock the NFL world.

So, the question isn’t on the side of the Patriots.  It’s a no-brainer for them if Thuney is not close to a deal.  The question is more on the side of the Cleveland Browns and if they would be willing to trade Odell Beckham Jr. who claims he has some “unfinished business” in the Land.

Considering that they would still have a lot of firepower around Baker Mayfield even without OBJ, their need for offensive line help should intrigue them.

As they say, anything is possible in the NFL as New England Patriots fans just saw with the Cam Newton signing.  Adding Odell Beckham Jr. to the mix would show that perhaps Bill Belichick had a plan all along.

Once again, it is the Hoodie playing Chess.  You will be crazy to believe Cam Newton is his only strategic move.
