The Boston Bruins played in an epic Game One and ended up coming out on top in double overtime defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3.

We were supposed to be watching Game One between the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. Fate had other plans.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Columbus Blue Jackets played in a five overtime thriller with the Lightning coming out on top. Due to the game lasting so long, Boston’s game was postponed.

More from Chowder and Champions

Wednesday morning would be when we finally got to see if the Bruins had flipped the switch or if fans should start to worry? B’s fans should be happy with the result.

It was a thriller of a game. Carolina showed that they are not the same team that Boston faced in 2019. It’s rather unlikely that the Bruins sweep the Hurricanes this go around. Carolina might have goaltending issues but their scoring is still there.

The fact that the Bruins were able to secure a win in Game One is crucial. After their poor start in the round-robin games, they needed to show that they are still the top team in the Eastern Conference. Boston has some work to do but they are headed on the right track.

Also, this was Boston’s fifth straight win against the Hurricanes in the playoffs. It’s fair to say that the Bruins have their number.

So let’s get into the five takeaways from Boston’s wild win over the Hurricanes.
