And the No. 1 key new player (who also will wear No. 1 on his jersey) who is new to New England but not new to anyone who follows the NFL, is the great former NFL MVP, quarterback Cam Newton.
No other new player could be the top new player, if not maybe the top player overall, on whom the New England Patriots will rely to contend in the AFC East and beyond.

Newton was signed in a major team, division, conference, and league-wide development. The hope is he can step in and provide the Patriots with a ready-made superstar. And if healthy, that’s exactly what can be expected from this terrific talent.
From all that can be gleaned from the early days of camp, Newton is ready to roll on behalf of the New England Patriots and their huge and dedicated fanbase in 2020.
As distasteful as the Brady exit was to that fanbase, they should be elated that this tremendous quarterback has joined the New England Patriots.
Frankly, there was no one in any way available that the Patriots could have added to the roster at quarterback, or any other position for that matter, who would have been a better addition than Newton. No one.

The air of despondency and depression emanating after Brady’s leaving could only have been mitigated by a signing like this. And for some strange reason, the Patriots actually made this signing. As unusual as it was, they actually made the very top signing that their fans might just have hoped that they would. That of itself is amazing.
Newton is the most important new addition to the Patriots and the addition who will be counted on most heavily on offense (and on the team generally) to bring victory to the 2020 version of the New England Patriots. He also brings excitement. Patriots’ fans should be excited, very excited.
