Boston Celtics big man Daniel Theis delivered with a clutch double-double

It was actually the combination of Daniel Theis and Enes Kanter who impacted the Game 5 turnaround and all credit has to be given to Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens.

In being practically out-coached this series, Stevens went with Kanter in the first half, which created some matchup problems for the Miami Heat.  The big man scored 8 points pretty quickly and opened up things a bit for the Celtics offense because of his height and ability to clean up on the offensive boards.

The change not only opened things up a little in that first half offensively, it also seemed to light a fire under Daniel Theis who finished the game with 15 points, 13 rebounds and some key blocked shots.

In becoming the X-factor of the game, Theis showed he can be effective against the Miami zone defense, which may be something to watch in Game 6.  His ability to make shots in the heart of that zone will be a factor, which he did early in the third quarter to trigger the team’s 20-3 run.

As the man who does all the dirty work on a team with basically four all starts, Daniel Theis continues to show his value to the team.  When Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Kemba Walker and Gordon Hayward are all clicking, Theis is proving he is the perfect big man to be on the court because of his versatility on both ends of the court.

He showed it Friday night and the Boston Celtics will need more of it if they want to force a Game 7 and then set their sights on the NBA Finals.
