A passing game on the rise

Phil Jurkovec knocked it out of the park with a 300-yard passing game to begin his career at Boston College.

We saw today that he will continue to be showcased in this offense, though passing 56 times every game is not a must.

More from Chowder and Champions

In only his third-game in a Boston College uniform, Jurkovec is becoming more comfortable. The play calling helped, as it seemed on nearly every passing down had a safety outlet, whether it be in Bailey, Pat Garwo III, or Travis Levy.

And after being sacked twice on the first series of the game, Jurkovec was only sacked once more in the game, on the final drive. He was under pressure much of the day, but had no turnovers and found ways to extend plays in the pocket.

Jurkovec also did miss on a few deep passes, notably once down the seam to tight end Hunter Long, who would have had a touchdown.

He finished 37-56 for 313 yards and two touchdowns.

His favorite target continued to be the all-worldly Long. Long had nine receptions for 96 yards, including key third-down grabs as he continued to show why he’s considered among the best tight ends in the nation.

Zay Flowers added eight receptions as nine different Boston College receivers hauled in passes.

If only the passing game could be balanced with a better running game.
