Live updates of Week 6 matchup between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos. Follow live commentary here.
It’s Cam Newton time once again as the New England Patriots quarterback will be back in action when his team squares off against the Denver Broncos in a Week 6 matchup highly impacted by COVID-19.
Coming in as nine-point favorites against a 1-3 Denver team, Newton will be on a mission to accomplish one thing he has not been able to do so far in his NFL career and that is beat the Broncos, one of four teams he has not defeated as a starting quarterback.
In fact, Cam Newton is 0-3 vs the Denver Broncos, including Super Bowl 50, a game in which is heart and desire to win was put into question. Coming back after his positive COVID-19 diagnosis, Newton will mainly be out to play well to get his team back in the win column.

With Stephon Gilmore also back, it should be an easier task against a Broncos team without two of their best offensive weapons in Melvin Gordon and tight end Noah Fant. But, without much practice time due to the coronavirus impact on the team, the New England Patriots will need to both focus and execute to get the job done in this Week 6 matchup.

New England Patriots vs Denver Broncos key matchup
The key matchup in this game is Bill Belichick’s defense vs Denver Broncos young quarterback Drew Lock.
After holding the Kanas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes to just 19 points on offense, the Patriots’ defense can’t overlook Lock and a Broncos’ offense without Gordon and Fant. There is still talent there and the defense has to create pressure, stay discipline against the run and more importantly force Drew Lock into some mistakes.
The latter will be much easier to do with 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore anchoring the secondary.
In all, it will take a full effort out of the defense to keep the Broncos from thinking they have a shot at winning this football game. The track record of Bill Belichick vs young quarterbacks is pretty evident. In this Week 6 matchup they simply have to keep the Denver Broncos quarterback locked up and uncomfortable in the pocket.
New England Patriots biggest storyline of Week 6
The biggest storyline of Week 6 will obviously be how Cam Newton and the offense looks following an unexpected bye week and not much time on the practice field.
Can the offensive line hold up with another key cog missing in Shaq Mason?
Will the running game come up successful against a Denver Broncos team in the top ten against the run?
Will Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry find success in the passing game?
All of these questions of course center around how Cam Newton looks in his return. Motivation alone should inspire the offense, but will that be enough to score consistently against the Broncos?
Week 6 prediction: New England Patriots 35, Denver Broncos 13.
