New England Patriots Rumors: John Ross would add excitement to offense
By Sam Minton
With the New England Patriots struggling to pass the ball, John Ross seems to be the perfect acquisition to jumpstart the offense.
Things aren’t looking good for the New England Patriots offense. Cam Newton is struggling to throw the ball and the running game isn’t so great either. It’s clear that the Patriots need to make a move.
One thing has been clear through the first six weeks of the season. New England is missing a reliable pass catcher, the biggest absence being Julian Edelman.

In his last three games, Edelman has only had seven catches for 66 yards. That is abysmal especially considering that Edelman was looked at as the Patriots top receiver.
New England needs a speedy wide receiver who can work well in the slot. Someone who Newton can throw the ball too early and let him do the rest. John Ross could be just the player that the Patriots need.
Ross is known for his blazing 40 yard dash time that was the fastest of the 2017 draft class. Even though Ross was drafted with the seventh overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals, he hasn’t been that successful so far in his career. He has just been unable to truly make an impact besides a few quality plays.
The wideouts best season came in 2019 when he had 28 catches for 506 yards and three touchdowns. That’s a pretty good season especially considering who Ross’ quarterback was. The speedster was able to put up those numbers with Andy Dalton throwing him the ball.
Ross has recently asked the team for a trade and that is an opportunity that the Patriots have to take advantage of. With him appearing to be phased out of Cincy’s offense, New England should be able to acquire him for rather cheap. One has to think that a mid-round draft pick would be able to get the job done. New England can afford to get rid of that.
This would help New England out a lot. The team would get to rest Edelman who is clearly banged up. That can be the only explanation for how poorly he has been playing. This would also help the offense get going.
Likely Ross could be one of the top receivers on the roster. The Patriots could line him up in the slot and possibly have their replacement for Edelman when he retires. He could be just what New England needs.
With his speed, Ross could likely get open rather quickly. This would allow Newton to get the ball out fast and take some of the pressure off the offensive line.
The Patriots need to start scoring fast and winning some games. If they are unable to they will disappoint fans and reach a new low. Could we even see the Patriots miss the playoffs? If they keep playing as they did in Week 6 it will be guaranteed.
So New England needs to be buyers at the trade deadline and Ross seems like a perfect investment for the team. Hopefully, the Patriots will pull the trigger and bring Ross to Gillette Stadium.
