New England Patriots: Hey Cam Newton, it’s put up or shut up time
New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton is putting the team struggles all on his shoulders…literally.
The New England Patriots enter their AFC East battle against the Buffalo Bills with the season on the line and a quarterback in Cam Newton who is confident he will get his act together in a “must-win” situation.
It won’t be an easy task for Newton and the Patriots. Not only are they going into the game with an offense that can’t seem to find a spark or continuity, they will be without their top two receivers in Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry.
But, don’t let the excuses start now. Cam Newton and the entire team know they can and will play better as “losing is not acceptable” in the locker room, even with the team on the brink of falling to 2-5. To prevent that it all starts with the man who wears No. 1. If the team is to upset the Bills, it starts with the former league MVP.

"“This whole week – starting on Sunday in the first quarter – was a humbling experience,” Newton said during his video conference on Thursday, via WEEI. “Getting a tap on the shoulder was a humbling experience. From saying, ‘Hey we’re thinking about..’ Hey, that’s all humbling and I am not used to that. Now I am at a cross-roads where if you don’t pick up your play that is going to be a permanent decision.”"
That tap on the shoulder was Jarrett Stidham coming in to replace Newton during the embarrassing 33-6 loss suffered at the hands of Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers.
It was a game in which the Patriots quarterback play was absolutely horrible as they just couldn’t get anything going. Luckily for Cam Newton, Stidham didn’t do any better because if he did spark the offense, Newton could be on the brink of spending more time on the bench watching.
Furthermore, he could still be a bad performance away from that situation anyway. So, Cam, in your own words, you need to get your “expletive up” and play like the quarterback Patriots fans marveled over the first two games of the season.
How can Cam Newton find success with no weapons?
Cam Newton recognizes he needs to play better and make better decisions because the New England Patriots offensive success starts with him.
When he is a threat to run the ball, the offense opens up. Yes, it will be hard without both Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry, but the Patriots have a very good group of versatile running backs who can create offense both running the ball and catching the ball out of the backfield.
They also have two, young tight end in Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene sniffing an opportunity to finally make a contribution to the offense. So, despite the lack of talent at wide receiver, Cam Newton has two elements he has found success with during his days with the Carolina Panthers. He has running back outlets and he has potential tight ends to get the ball out to on the flat if he decides to look their way.
Most importantly, he is the biggest offensive weapon for the New England Patriots, and he has to be that dual threat to get everything going. Expect Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to put him in position to be that player.
In summary, another bad performance is not in the cards Mr. Cam Newton. You’ve talked the talk all week about getting your “expletive” together. It’s put up or shut up time.
