New England Patriots: Fans shouldn’t be angry with Bill Belichick
By Sam Minton
The New England Patriots hurt their future by going all-in for Super Bowls, now the team is finally paying the price.
Life as a New England Patriots fan has been fun for the last twenty years. Now the same can not be said. Patriots fans are finally seeing what it is like to root for a struggling team. While it can be easy to be upset at the organization, Patriots fans shouldn’t be.
The Patriots have always been in contention for a Super Bowl since the early 2000s. The price of being so good is rather steep.

New England didn’t build their roster for the future. They didn’t plan for life without Tom Brady. All they were focused on was the current season.
What did that get the Patriots? Well, they won six Super Bowls and had one of the more dominant reigns in NFL history.
But now the Patriots are paying the price. They will have to struggle for a while before getting back to the top. That’s what we are seeing so far in 2020.
Even head coach Bill Belichick has seemed to realize this. He said that the team had sold out in an interview with WEEI.
"“Look, we paid Cam Newton $1 million. I mean it’s obvious we didn’t have any money. It’s nobody’s fault. That’s what we did the last five years. We sold out and won three Super Bowls, played in a fourth and played in a AFC Championship Game. This year we had less to work with. It’s not an excuse, it’s just a fact.”"
Now if Belichick can realize this so can the fans. If you had any hope for the 2020 season, these comments told you to give up.
New England is having one of their worst seasons since 2000. The team will likely be a bottom 10 team by the end of the regular season. They will be in that terrible position of not being bad enough to get a top draft pick, but also not being good enough to compete. Expect plenty of 7-9 and 8-8 seasons for New England.
But many Patriots fans wouldn’t have it any other way. They got to watch Brady lift Lombardi Trophy after Lombardi Trophy. Would you give up one or two of those Super Bowls to be in a better position now? I don’t think so.
So now we have to wait. This team needs to come down to Earth before winning Super Bowls again. It’s time to embrace the fact that the Patriots will be a bad team for a while.
Don’t be angry Patriots fans. Frankly, you simply can’t be. This is just how the NFL works and is the cost of doing business. The Patriots had their time in the sun, now it is setting on what was one of the best dynasties in NFL history.
