The New England Patriots have dodged a major bullet when it comes to the health of second year running back Damien Harris.

As one of the bright spots in the 2020 NFL season, New England Patriots running back Damien Harris appears to be okay following a big hit that took him out of the game in the team’s Week 9 victory over the New York Jets.

With another strong rushing performance, the late-game injury looked more serious than it actually was, but the good news for Harris and the Patriots is that the Alabama hammer looks like he has dodged a major bullet with the chest injury.

Speaking to the media Friday, Harris gave good indication that he will be ready for the Week 10 battle against a physical Baltimore Ravens team.

"“To be honest, I am. Not really here to talk about that situation,” Harris said Friday, as transcribed by WEEI.  “It happened and it’s over with.  I’ve been out here trying to get myself to play in this game and that is what I am focusing on.  We’re playing a good physical team this week and I’ve just been trying to do my part in getting myself as mentally ready and as physically ready to be able to play in this game and be successful.”"

Rushing for 71 yards on 14 carries, Damien Harris was on his way to another 100-yard rushing performance.  That momentum should carry over to this week’s matchup as he and the entire running game will be a key component in having a chance to upset the Baltimore Ravens.

With a rushing yards-per-carry average of 5.6 this season, Harris has the ability to keep the offense on the field as well as keeping Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense off the field.

His availability for this Sunday Night matchup is certainly something to watch for as game time approaches.

All eyes on Stephon Gilmore and his status with the New England Patriots

While the Damien Harris injury news is trending in the right direction, the New England Patriots have 16 other players listed as questionable heading into the Sunday night matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Among that list are key players like Ja’Whaun Bentley, Jonathan Jones, Lawrence Guy, Joe Thuney, John Simon, Shaq Mason, Isaiah Wynn, Deatrich Wise and Stephon Gilmore.

Gilmore is the player to watch due to the NFL Trade Deadline rumblings.  The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year hasn’t played the last two weeks and if he is once again inactive in this Week 10 matchup, one has to wonder if he is being shut down for the season (no pun intended).

Next. New England Patriots: 3 players Bill Belichick can build around. dark

With the team at 3-5 with a chance to move back into playoff talk with an upset victory, having Stephon Gilmore out there on the field will be critical to any run the Patriots can go on, thus turning around a lackluster 2020 season.

In summary, Gilmore’s knee could really be legit, but with how Bill Belichick holds grudges, one does have to wonder if something else is going on here.
