The Boston Red Sox could make a splash in free agency and also with these 3 trades that would put the team back in contention.

Okay Boston Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom, it is time to put your big boy pants on and establish yourself as a big-time front office executive by wheeling and dealing this team back into a World Series contender.

Furthermore, it’s time to put some jubilation back into Red Sox Nation by making up for that Mookie Betts deal.

Sure, Alex Verdugo and Jeter Downs may turn out to be future stars in this league, but after witnessing the Los Angeles Dodgers win the 2020 World Series behind the phenomenal play of Betts while the Red Sox finished last in the AL East, it’s hard for fans not to feel a certain way.

So, what will get the team and fans back?  What will show the rest of baseball that the Boston Red Sox mean business?

Well, Bloom has made some minor free agency moves to provide depth at some key positions.  With big-time free agents still out there like George Springer and Trevor Bauer still out there, the Red Sox could certainly make a splash that way, but here are three trade ideas that may just rock MLB.

Starting rotation: Boston Red Sox add Zach Wheeler

That Chaim Bloom connection to the Tampa Bay Rays would’ve proved worthy if the Boston Red Sox were the team to pull off the blockbuster deal for former Cy Young winner Blake Snell.  But they didn’t.

So, is there another frontline starter the Red Sox could possibly trade for?

Well, a player who was linked to the Red Sox in the past could be available in Philadelphia Phillies starter Zach Wheeler.

Although the Phillies have denied any aspirations in trading Wheeler, where there is smoke there is usually fire and if the offer is right, Philadelphia will probably listen.

The $96 million left on his five-year, $118 million deal and the young talent the Red Sox would probably have to part would make this deal definitely shocking, especially with Bloom’s comments regarding why the team didn’t go after Blake Snell.

But just imagine for a moment.  The Red Sox add a front-line starter like Zach Wheeler, eventually get Chris Sale back, to go along with Eduardo Rodriguez, Nathan Eovaldi and a young talent like Tanner Houck and your boys in Boston would be back in business.

Unfortunately, this type of trade may result in losing some top prospects as well as a player like Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts or Bobby Dalbec.
