The New England Patriots season is over and here is a look at what happens next for Bill Belichick and his crew.

The New England Patriots just finished a 2020 NFL season that was less than successful.

Yes, they did lose Tom Brady. Yes, they had issues with COVID-19. Yes, there were injuries that plagued the entire roster. Did this work into Bill Belichick’s favor? Did he realize that this would be a season that he would want to forget, or would it be at the start of a new chapter for the New England Patriots?

You can say either one, you can see how this season was a challenge unlike any other for Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots.

Heading into the off-season they have a lot of decisions to make. One of the most important ones will be who will be behind center as the team’s next quarterback.

Are they going to stay with Cam Newton? Is it going to end up being a different player? Are they going to draft a new quarterback hoping he becomes their franchise guy?

The options are open for Bill Belichick.

What is Bill Belichick’s master plan?

Did this season go as planned for the New England Patriots?

Did Bill Belichick realize that his position with the Patriots is so solid that he didn’t run the risk of losing his job?

As such a successful coach he has the most job security in the NFL. Belichick could’ve wanted to get the New England Patriots as close to the number one pick as he could ensuring he could get the highest draft pick he could.

Although this theory is far-fetched, one could see it as a big move. Not only do the Patriots have a hard time this season with passing, but also having production on the offense of that.

If this theory is true, it is very possible that there was a reason for the Patriots below average season.

Perhaps they entertain the idea of “tanking” for a high-quality quarterback such as: Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, or best of all Trevor Lawrence. Currently the New England Patriots have the 15th pick of the 2021 NFL draft. Will one of these three quarterbacks fall to them?

The New England Patriots hold the No. 15 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft

To entertain the idea even further, it’s interesting to look at how the NFL draft may play out.

The Jacksonville jaguars will definitely use their first overall pack on a quarterback. Most likely Trevor Lawrence.

The New York Jets will likely stick with Sam Darnold.

The Miami Dolphins are set.

The Atlanta Falcons are set to pick the second quarterback in the draft. According to ESPN’s Todd McShay’s NFL Mock Draft, the Falcons are set to pick Zach Wilson.

As for the Bengals, Eagles, Lions, Panthers, Broncos, Cowboys, Giants, 49ers, Chargers, and Vikings all pick ahead of the New England Patriots, but all seem set at the quarterback position.

At 15th pick, it is likely we see the New England Patriots select Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields.

Despite having a mid-first round pick, they might end up climbing the ladder even further. Could they swap pics with another team or will they trade away players in order to achieve that higher pick.

Either way, the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick are well set for the 2021 NFL season. Foxboro is not only a historic town for football, but many players dream took play under Bill Belichick.

There are plenty of wide receivers and tight ends going into free agency this summer, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few land in New England.
