RP Alex Colome

Back to Chaim Bloom’s past, as Alex Colome spent time with the Rays in his career before being traded in 2018. Since joining the Chicago White Sox in 2019, however, Colome has been one of the best relievers in baseball.

And we know with the signing of Liam Hendriks, Colome will be looking for a new home this season.

More from Red Sox Rumors

The Red Sox have been linked to Colome heavily so far this offseason and could bring him in eventually, instantly giving them a solid one-two punch with Matt Barnes and instantly giving them a bullpen to trust heading into 2021.

Colome was masterful in the shortened 2020 season, appearing in 21 games and delivering a stunning 0.81 ERA while recording 12 saves. And if those aren’t good enough, then 2019 saw him appear in 62 games, recording a 2.80 ERA and grabbing 30 saves in 62 appearances.

It feels that since Craig Kimbrel left the Red Sox, fans have been hoping for a closer or any reliever really to come in and give them that confidence again. Colome has shown he can be exactly that, whether it be as a closer or set-up man for the team.

Set to enter his age 32 season, a contract that should last three or four seasons seems reasonable and should be far cheaper than that of Hendriks, making Colome the perfect arm for Bloom and company to add to Alex Cora’s staff.
