New England Patriots: Time for Josh McDaniels to fly away from the nest
If it is not now, will it be ever for New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who is once again interviewing for a head coaching job according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
In a tweet that sparked NFL rumors on Saturday, Schefter has linked McDaniels as a Philadelphia Eagles head coach candidate, which an interview scheduled to take place on Sunday.
Is this just the start to an interesting offseason for Bill Belichick and the Patriots?
If either McDaniels or linebackers coach Jerod Mayo get the nod for the Eagles job, it would certainly open up more questions and speculation surrounding the Patriots coaching staff going into 2021, but the focus is on McDaniels who appears ready to take another stab at head coaching.

Josh McDaniels ready to step away from the New England Patriots
Here is what McDaniels said prior to the 2020 NFL season coming to an end for the Patriots when asked whether he wants to become a head coach again.
"“Absolutely. I definitely want to do that,” McDaniels said via conference call back in December, via WEEI. “I’d love to have that opportunity if it presents itself.”"
But, has life without Tom Brady actually hurt McDaniels’ status around the league. After failing to make things work offensively with Cam Newton at the helm, the Patriots offense was boring and staggering to say the least.
Much of that had to do with a lack of talent, but there was some questionable play calling in there, which led some if not most Patriots fans to grow tired of McDaniels.
So, is it time for him to fly away from the Belichick nest if the opportunity presents itself?
It may be the right time for a team that is re-tooling, but maybe the wrong time for a team out to gloom the next quarterback, unless a veteran like Jimmy Garoppolo returns to New England or another veteran like Matthew Stafford suits up on a New England Patriots uniform in 2021.
What McDaniels does will more than likely fuel what the Patriots do at the quarterback position.
That scenario also makes the possibility of McDaniels getting the Eagles head coaching gig intriguing as he would be entering a situation where a young quarterback in Carson Wentz wants out.
With Jalen Hurts taking over as starter and impressing late in the year, would McDaniels give one back to the Patriots by trading Wentz to New England?
That is of course if McDaniels leaves his interview with the Eagles as a frontrunner. The worst-case scenario is that he returns to the Patriots as offensive coordinator in 2021, which is not that bad as long talent is injected into the offensive unit.
In conclusion, the Eagles job appears to be that situation that will show if McDaniels is really ready to fly away from the next again. After spurning the Indianapolis Colts job a few years ago, he is lucky NFL teams still has him on the list.
