The New England Patriots being intertwined in any rumors regarding quarterback trade buzz or free agency will be a recurring them in the 2021 offseason until the team actually lands a quarterback.

So, when Adam Schefter set Twitter ablaze on Saturday with the following tweet regarding Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, the trade speculation in regard to what the Patriots interest might be begun to soar.

But is the interest actually real?

Like the Matthew Stafford blockbuster trade a week ago, the answer may come sooner rather than later.  It may come before this article even gets a chance to age well.

Why Carson Wentz is not worth the value for the New England Patriots

The real question for Patriots fans is Wentz worth possibility giving up their No. 15 pick overall and possibly more?

More from Chowder and Champions

In a what have you done for me lately reactionary sports world, the answer on the Chowder and Champions Facebook Fan page was an overwhelming no, as some fans brought to question his leadership or lack thereof.

Coming off a 2020 NFL season in which his struggles on the field were highlighted by a benching in favor of rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts, there are questions on whether the former No. 2 overall pick could regain his Pro Bowl status.

If any team can restore his focus and potential, he showed on the field in his second year in the league, it is Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniels and the Patriots.  But, again, given how much else the team will need, giving up too much for a quarterback who may or may not work out would further dent Belichick’s reputation as a general manager.

So, if not Carson Wentz, then who for the Patriots?

With teams like the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears also highly rumored in a deal for Wentz, that could further open the door for a Jimmy Garoppolo return.

If indeed the Bears and Eagles pull off a blockbuster deal has been highly rumored and speculated since the Schefter tweet, that would take Chicago off the board as a potential destination for Jimmy G.  Of course, that is going to depend on whether the San Francisco 49ers decide to upgrade their quarterback position in the same fashion the Rams did when they shipped Jared Goff for Stafford.

Now, with Deshaun Watson trade speculation, the 49ers may see their upgrade and go for it, leaving the Patriots as the prime and ideal landing spot for Garoppolo.

In a way this quarterback carousel started with Stafford, but where Wentz goes can actually help the New England Patriots even if he does not land here himself…somehow.

As always, stay tuned.
