Celtics rumors: Harrison Barnes could get team over hump
By Sam Minton
Apparently, the Boston Celtics and Danny Ainge are getting busy as the trade deadline gets closer and closer. Hopefully Harrison Barnes is a player they are looking at.
Boston has a traded player exception that they need to use up. They have a blank check that they could use to acquire a player that could get them over the hump and lifting a banner at TD Garden.

Celtics fans don’t need a reminder, but with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the future is extremely bright. They seem like they are near a championship, but could require just a little bit of help to get there.
Ainge has proven that he deserves our trust. He has made some amazing moves and deserves a lot of credit for what he has done for the C’s.
But allow me to pitch Ainge on why Barnes should be the man he acquires.
Harrison Barnes could get Celtics over the hump.
Barnes is having a great year for the Kings. He is averaging 17.1 points and 6.5 rebounds a game.
But the thing that sticks out the most is Barnes’ shooting ability. He is shooting over 40 percent from behind the three-point line.
This is something that Ainge has spoken about as a need for Boston. Standing at 6’8″ Barnes is the definition of a shooter with size.
Barnes also has the contract that would make things work for Boston. His salary of $22.2 million would allow the Celtics to use their TPE.
Now the difficult question is what would it cost? If Marcus Smart is on the table, Boston should walk away from the talks.
But if the Kings simply want a young talent and some draft picks Ainge needs to make a deal.
The acquisition of Barnes would add so much depth to Boston’s roster. The Celtics would have two strong units.
We have already seen this season that when Brown and Tatum are on the bench, Boston struggles a lot. They can easily give up a 20 point lead when they are forced to rest these guys.
The acquisition of Barnes would allow Smart to drop down to the second unit and take his rightful role as the sixth man on the roster. Also, Barnes would add the shooting skills that Boston desperately needs.
Fans have hope with the emergence of Payton Pritchard. He seems to be a great draft pick and the polished player that the C’s need it. He also is a quality shooter and can catch fire quickly.
So the acquisition of Barnes would be a great move for the Celtics. He would make Boston a team who could compete against the giants of the Western Conference and well on their way to a championship.
