The Boston Celtics have been struggling, but they clearly still have talent. According to GM Danny Ainge that might be too optimistic of a view.

Boston has been routinely giving up leads and just playing poor basketball. Kemba Walker doesn’t even seem to be the same player. He is struggling immensely out on the court.

People are even starting to doubt Brad Stevens. While he deserves criticism for not preparing the team night in and night out, Stevens also deserves some time.

But some people are panicking. For some Celtics fans, the sky is falling even though they aren’t exactly at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

Well, not just Celtics fans anymore. Danny Ainge seems to be already declaring the 2021 season a done deal for Boston.

Why Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge is giving up on the 2021 NBA season.

Ainge appeared on the Toucher and Rich show on 98.5 the Sports Hub and declared that this Celtics roster isn’t good enough to win a championship.

"“Our roster obviously is not good. I mean, we are a 14-14 team. There’s no if’s, and’s or but’s about it. That’s who we are,” the Celtics’ GM said, taking responsibility. “This team, where we are, 14-14, if there’s somebody to blame, this is Danny Ainge to blame. This is not Brad Stevens. It’s not Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown. It’s like not good enough right now. And we all know that. And, you know, we need to get better.”"

The Celtics currently sit at .500. They are still 5th in the Eastern Conference. Boston is even under five games from the top of the conference.

The sky is not falling. Boston can still fix things this season. A championship is not off the table.

As Ainge mentioned, the Celtics still have Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. These two players are some of the best young stars in the NBA today. The sky is the limit with these two players on the roster.

Well, some will appreciate Ainge’s honesty, it will likely hurt the Celtics. Now teams will know that Boston is desperately searching for players. They will crank prices up in order to take advantage of Ainge and the C’s.

Ainge is usually the one getting the best out of deals. That what makes these recent comments so surprising.

Also, it is concerning that this attitude could possibly get down to the players. What if they start giving up on the season? That would leave Celtics fans really angry.

Giving up on the 2021 season makes zero sense whether Ainge actually believes it or not. It signals to the rest of the NBA that they are knocked down. It just isn’t good for the organization.

Next. Harrison Barnes could get C's over hump. dark

So Ainge’s comments are mind-boggling, to say the least. For all the great moves that he has made, this is a comment that might have been better served staying in the mind of the GM.
