It is clear that the New England Patriots need a boost at wide receiver. With how much the Patriots struggled in the passing game throughout 2020, they need an upgrade sooner or later. Could DeSean Jackson be the answer?

With how things stand now, the Patriots are ready to have another poor season on offense. They don’t even have a quarterback at the moment.

At wide receiver, things aren’t great either. Julian Edelman seems to have been defeated by father time leaving players like N’Keal Harry and Jakobi Meyers as the future of the passing game.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Patriots return to the draft to find their next star. They might have missed on Harry, but they could find their star in 2021.

New England could also take the route of finding a free agent who is already proven at the NFL level. Jackson would fit that description.

Why the New England Patriots shouldn’t sign DeSean Jackson.

Now Jackson has been great. He is a quality wideout and made a name for himself in Philadelphia.

But that isn’t the case anymore. Jackson is a veteran wideout who is past his prime. The 34-year-old is no longer the burner that he once was.

The only reason the Patriots should consider bringing in Jackson is that he likely wouldn’t cost a ton of money. It would be hard for the veteran to command an insanely large deal at this point in his career.

The issue is that bringing in Jackson would be a step backward for New England. The team needs to start getting younger instead of older. If they want to get back to winning Super Bowls they need to start rebuilding.

Also, Jackson would take up valuable reps from players such as Meyers. He needs more snaps not less.

So the Patriots shouldn’t be in contention for Jackson. He would be a waste of a signing and only delay what is a necessary rebuild for New England.

The organization should have all of its focus on the 2021 NFL Draft. If they are able to hit on even just one player they could change the trajectory of the franchise. Especially if they are able to draft their quarterback of the future.

Next. Cutting Julian Edelman actually makes sense. dark

With Jackson reaching free agency his name is sure to raise a few eyebrows, but since the year is 2021 and not 2010, New England should stay far away from the veteran wideout.
