The New England Patriots clearly need a new tight end. After the selections of Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene proving to be a failure, the Pats could look to the draft once again in 2021.

Cam Newton and the Patriots struggled mightily. Maybe if Newton had some actual pass catchers he would have done better. Asiasi and Keene were completely absent in 2020.

More from Chowder and Champions

In the entire 2020 season, the duo only had five catches for 55 yards and a single touchdown.  That isn’t good enough especially when these guys were drafted to be eventual starters.

So headed into the 2021 NFL season, the Patriots need to find some pass catchers. No matter who is under center, both the wide receivers and tight ends need an upgrade.

One player who should be on New England’s radar is Kyle Pitts.

Kyle Pitts could solve New England Patriots tight end woes.

Pitts dominated the 2020 season down in Florida. He snagged 43 catches for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns. That is exactly what New England needs.

As you can see, Pitts is a quality pass catcher. Some draft experts can even see him playing wide receiver in the NFL.

Pitts is also a big body. Standing at 6’6″ he can be a great red zone target which is also something that New England could use.

Honestly, Pitts can do it all. He’s also a great run blocker on top of being able to line up out wide or in the slot. Such a great all around player is exactly what the Patriots need.

The problem is that Pitts is projected to be selected well before New England’s selection at 15th overall. Mel Kiper recently has him going in the top five. It might not surprise you, but the Patriots shouldn’t move up in the draft for a tight end.

If New England wants to move up in the draft, it should be for a quarterback. That is the only position worth giving up some serious assets for.

But there is always a chance that Pitts drop in the draft. Especially at the tight end position anything can happen.

Also, there are a ton of QB prospects capable of being drafted early in the draft. This means that Pitts could in fact fall to New England.

If the Patriots are somehow able to land Pitts they will het a great pass catcher who is capable of making an impact in the passing game. After 2020 that is sure to get Patriots fans excited.
