Boston Celtics: Jayson Tatum proves he should be sole star
By Sam Minton
Things weren’t looking good for the Boston Celtics on Sunday but one player was there to save the day. Jayson Tatum put the team on his back and ensured they walked away with a victory.
The odds were already stacked against the Celtics seeing that Jaylen Brown was unable to play. With his knee acting up everyone needed to step up in his place.

Thankfully one player did more than step up. Tatum played phenomenally against the Wizards. He racked up 31 points and eight rebounds.
Tatum’s biggest points came at the end of the game. He secured the victory for the Celtics with a last-second layup.
This is the performance that has made Tatum one of the young stars in the NBA today. It also may signal that Boston needs to consider how they want to construct their roster moving forward.
Jayson Tatum proves he should be Boston Celtics sole star.
Tatum has been Boston’s best player so far this season. He is averaging 25 points along with 6.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists. That was good enough to get him in the 2021 All-Star Game.
But after his performance on Sunday, it seems as though Tatum has that desired clutch gene that stars need. If there’s a big shot to take, Tatum is your guy.
Also, Tatum is capable of taking over games. We have seen him score at will and single-handedly ensure that Boston wins games.
But Celtics fans have to wonder, could Tatum be better served by being the main guy instead of sharing the ball with Jaylen Brown.
Kemba Walker has already stated that he knows he is here to mentor Tatum and Brown. While it seemed once upon a time that Boston might need to move on from him, Walker is starting to perform rather well.
The question is then should Boston move on from Brown?
There is no doubt that Brown is a great player. He will surely have a great career and would be missed.
The issue is that Brown’s knee issues won’t be going away. Boston will have to rest him more and more as he gets older. Depending on him might not be the best idea.
Also, addition by subtraction is a real thing. Boston Bruins fans have seen that after the loss of Zdeno Chara. Now Charlie McAvoy is playing superbly.
The very same could happen to Tatum. Instead of having to share the ball with Brown, Tatum can focus on his game. Instead of averaging 25 points, we could see Tatum average 30 plus points a game.
Tatum has proven that he can be relied on to make the tough shots. He is the guy that Boston should depend on when it comes to their future.
So while it would raise a few eyebrows among fans. Moving on from Jaylen Brown could actually help the Celtics and Tatum become better and maybe even win a championship.
